Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
Founded in the 17th century as a 'physic garden' growing medicinal plants, this lovely garden still has many medicinal examples amongst its 15,000 species today, as well as an extensive reference library, herbarium and archive.
Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow
Founded in 1599, the RCPSG welcomes professionals and the general public to visit the College Library. The collection of printed books has been built up over the last three hundred years and includes medical works dating from the 15th Century.

Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Library and Archive
The library and archive of a 500 year old medical institution, is housed in William Henry Playfair’s handsome 1832 Surgeons’ Hall.
It contains over 40,000 volumes of manuscript and printed material on subject areas that include the history of medicine, anatomy, surgery and its specialties and the history of Edinburgh.
Scottish Poetry Library
Located in an award-winning building, the Scottish poetry Library is the nation poetry resource, offering free lending and reference facilities. Focused on modern Scottish poetry, the SPL also offers a wide range of world poetry and an excellent junior section.
University of Aberdeen, Medical Library
Working library for University Medical School. Also small collection of monographs (1750-1920) in all branches of clinical and pre-clinical medicine (except dentistry). Mainly in English but some German and French material from the later 19th century.
University of Aberdeen, Special Libraries & Archives
Important collections of early printed books and archives of the first English-speaking university with a chair in medicine (1497). Complete libraries, personal papers from Scotland and the colonies, case notes, early lecture notes from Aberdeen and continental universities.

Rich collections dating from the 17th century including manuscripts, printed books and medical papers.
University of Glasgow, Library Special Collections Department
Built up over a period of more than 500 years by purchase, gift and bequest, the collections now contain more than 200,000 manuscript items and around 200,000 printed works, including over 1,000 incunabula.
University of St Andrews
The University’s science collections include items relating to the teaching of physics and astronomy, chemistry, psychology, anatomy and pathology, and the Bell Pettigrew Museum collection of Natural History.
