The LHSA is a rich repository for NHS institutional administrative and clinical records, private papers, photographs and objects relating to the history of health care in the Lothian region and the history of medicine in Scotland. Access is free to anyone with an interest in the records. Access Restrictions are applied where records are covered by the Data Protection Act and NHS Confidentiality Guidelines.

In term time, the Library is open until 7.00pm Monday-Thursday. If in doubt, please call to check opening times.
Please note that it is essential to make an appointment before visiting the archive as some material is stored in another location.
Public reading room services at the LHSA will be unavailable from Monday 26th May 2008. This is to allow for the relocation of services and stock from the current temporary accommodation to new premises on the 5th and 6th floors of the Main Library as part of the continuing Main Library Re-development Project. It is expected that the reading room service will resume by Monday 29th September 2008. Any subsequent changes to this schedule will be notified as soon as they arise.
