The museum, run by the Linlithgow Heritage Trust, has documents relating to the life and work of surgeon David Waldie of Linlithgow 1813-1889.

David Waldie papers include his Diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a diary of his journey to India in 1853 and his monograph discussing the properties of chloroform as an anaesthetic agent. Waldie has been credited with suggesting the use of chloroform in anaesthesia to James Young Simpson.
