Although the founding charter of 1451 provided for the teaching of medicine, formal teaching did not begin on a regular basis at the University of Glasgow until 1714. In 1945, Glasgow Veterinary College merged with the University and two years later St Mungo’s College, Glasgow Dental School and Anderson’s College of Medicine also joined. Nursing has been taught at the University since 1978. Teaching is now based in the award winning Wolfson Medical School Building which opened in 2002. Records documenting the people and events surrounding the University’s medical history are available to all by appointment.
