Crichton Royal, Dumfries
The Crichton Royal, Dumfries. Funded by a bequest from local businessman and doctor, James Crichton, the Crichton Royal mental hospital admitted its first patient in 1839. It was designed by Edinburgh architect William Burn, and included spacious galleries, workshops and music rooms
