Sir William Watson Cheyne
Sir William Watson Cheyne as an old man in the 1920s, shown here in the verandah of the house he built for his retirement at Leagarth, in his childhood home of Fetlar, Shetland. He built the long verandah to house his enormous collection of potplants, an extension to landscaped gardens which miraculously defied the Shetland weather.
