Mortar belonging to James Borthwick 1668
Mortar belonging to James Borthwick 1668. The apothecary James Borthwick (1615-1675) was admitted master-surgeon to Edinburgh's Incoporation of Barber-Surgeons in 1645 to teach anatomy and pharmacy to apprentices. This bronze mortar is inscribed with his name and dated 1668.
